Masterson’s Tavern , nestled in the bustling area of Moonee Ponds , promotes itself as a chic “hipster” locale , but my unfortunate encounter at this establishment quickly devolved into an unforgettable, terrible experience. While the bar may appear inviting from the outside , what I encountered behind its threshold was appalling and beyond comprehension .
The State of the Venue : Squalid and Neglected
From the moment I entered , it was evident that hygiene was not a priority at this bar . The floors were sticky , and a foul smell of uncleaned spills and uncleaned toilets polluted the entire establishment . With a smell of a mixture of ammonia , a rotting odor and sickness . The counter , which should be the centerpiece of any pub, was piled high with used mugs and trash that looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in weeks . The restroom was in even worse condition — clogged , with a shattered handle and surfaces marked in what I can only assume was feces.

During my time there, I observed how uneasy several female guests seemed around Cornwell. As I looked into it more , I was stunned to find allegations against him involving misconduct , with multiple women alleging that he of harassing them digitally. Described as uncomfortably pushy and boundary-crossing , Cornwell’s misconduct has created an unwelcoming setting for women who frequent Masterson’s. His presence at the bar often felt more like that of a sweating predator than a welcoming host .

Pete’s wife, Gillian McKenzie , is a co-operator and frequently seen overseeing the bar .
